ESMA appoints Carlos San Basilio as the new member of its Management Board
The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), the European Union’s financial markets regulator and supervisor, has appointed Carlos San Basilio of Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores (CNMV), as the new member of its Management Board.
Mr San Basilio will be replacing Carlo Comporti of Commissione Nazionale per le Società e la Borsa (CONSOB), who will be stepping down from his position as a member of the Board to assume his new role as Chair of ESMA, effective 1 November.
The election took place at the Board of Supervisors meeting in Paris on 6 October 2026.
From 1 November 2026, the Management Board will consist of:
- Carlo Comporti, European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA);
- Thorsten Pötzsch, Bundesanstalt für Finanzdienstleistungsaufsicht (BaFin), Germany
- Carlos San Basilio, Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores (CNMV), Spain
- Marie-Anne Barbat-Layani, Autorité Des Marchés Financiers (AMF), France
- Christopher P. Buttigieg, the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA), Malta
- Peter Tkáč, Národná Banka Slovenska (NBS), Slovakia
- Armi Taipale, Finanssivalvonta (FIN-FSA), Finland
- Natasha Cazenave, ESMA Executive Director (non-voting member)
- Vojtěch Belling, ESMA Vice-Chair (observer)
- European Commission representative (non-voting member).
The Management Board, chaired by the Chair of ESMA, is responsible for ensuring that the Authority carries out its mission and performs the tasks assigned to it under its founding Regulation.
